Ame

Almost every year the birthday tradition has been to find a unique birthday dinner location to celebrate with my friends. This year I chose Ame (Ah-May). I was first inspired by the name since my closest friends call me Ames. After investigating, I soon learned that it was a Japanese inspired restaurant bar and lounge!

Ame (which means "rain" in Japanese) features a modern Japanese menu. Featuring sushi & sashimi as well as a variety of grilled fish cooked on custom built Robata grill. I was sold! With my fascination of Geisha and Japanese culture and cuisine I decided to round up the friends for a evening of bliss.

It was love at first sight as I entered the spacious modern design infused restaurant with a hint of Japanese culture. Brightly coloured kimono fabrics against black sleek leather, polished concrete flooring and reclaimed wood welcomed me into the chic supper club.

I haven't even started to describe the food yet and I bet your mouth is already w
ater
ing. The creator of the menu is Guy Rubino a critically acclaimed restaurant owner. As I anxiously awaited my order of spicy tuna I sipped my cocktail called a Shooga, a mix of Sapporo, sake, ouzo and garnished with pickled ginger.

The DJ mixes and upbeat music sets the vibe and moments later I'm devouring an array of fare. Squash tempura, glazed tuna, wasabi, ginger, scallions, the sensation goes on....watercress with Yuzu, toasted soy nuts....and more, located in the heart of the entertainment district in downtown Toronto!
