This A.M. many Canadians are celebrating the long weekend and the Civic Holiday. Many have made long road trips up north to their cozy cottage, to a camp site or to their boat. However, here in the city of T-Dot you may be jumping up to a big parade tune at Caribana. Or stuck in traffic. If you didn't make it out of the crazy city, I have the perfect place to send you. Inspired by Algonquin Park, canoe trips, cooking over an open fire and swimming in the big lakes of Ontario, Big Crow owned by (Rose &Sons) is sure to take your mind off concrete, traffic and Caribana crowds.
Tucked behind Rose & Sons, you will forget you are in the heart of Toronto. Instead, the backyard vibe set with long picnic tables, lanterns and an open fire is like a trip to the cottage.
The laid back vibe compliments the family style menu. I started my meal with a bowl of Tymek pickles. These 'cukes' were gigantic and mixed in with sauerkraut and red pickled peppers that had a hint of bubblegum taste!
A 1.5lb lobster grilled with lemon and herbs on the open fire.
An open backyard kitchen stocked with firewood and wooden bowls.
Keeping the grill hott with coals, the cooks grill dry aged rib with bone in steaks and blue cheese, rabbit in honey hot sauce, swordfish, chicken wings, corn, shrimp and trout.
Baby Backs with burst tomato pesto and a side of potato salad
Grilled Lobster with lemon and herbs. What you don't see here, is the spicy and yet refreshing grilled corn salad with queso fresco and chili mayo.
The Dessert menu is simple yet delicious. You get to choose from 3 ice-cream sandwiches.
- pb and j
- lemon curd with berries
Okay final last words...it's the long weekend who wants to cook or do dishes? ..take a trip to Big Crow for a Muskoka weeknight get away!
