French 75

This A.M. I am sure you have noticed old fashioned cocktails are making a resurgence. Simple bourbon, gin and rum cocktails from the early 1900's are on many menus. My always dapper friend David and I recently got together at his loft in the Channelside district to have a happy hour featuring my favorite old fashioned cocktail, the French 75. Made with champagne and gin, the invigorating cocktail is best described as a combination of classy and refreshing. Try it for yourself, it would make a wonderful addition to your upcoming holiday gatherings.

All the necessary accoutrements for happy hour at David's
Pleasing to the eyes and the taste

"Thee French 75 can be made with either Gin or Cognac. I use the recipe from Arnaud's Restaurant where the bar is specifically a French 75 bar." -David (looking dapper as usual, above)

French 75, the Arnaud's way

1 1/4 oz Cognac or Gin
1/4 oz Lemon Juice
1/4 oz Simple Syrup
3 oz Champagne

Shake with ice, cognac or gin, lemon juice and simple syrup.  Pour into a champange flute and top with champagne. Garnish with a Lemon Twist
